Brine Management — A Necessity, Not A Luxury
3/15/2022
Brine is everywhere: desalination plants, gas and oil drillings, energy generation plants, mines, cooling towers, food manufacturing plants, chip fabrication, and many other industries that require high volumes of water. They all generate brine as a byproduct of their processes.

Natural Gas-Fired Combined Cycle Power Plant Improves The Performance Of Water Treatment System
7/19/2016
A natural gas-fired combined cycle power generation facility located in Idaho contacted QUA to find a solution to improve the performance of a water treatment system used to recycle the plant’s cooling tower blow down water.

FGD Purge Treatment In Coal-Fired Power Generation
3/6/2015
Stricter environmental policies and regulations worldwide are changing how industry approaches all aspects of business. Likewise, EU (European Union) environmental policies governing air, soil, and water quality have become progressively stringent.
These policy changes affect the power industry’s balance of meeting growing European energy demands with compliance to environmental standards. In order to conform with EU standards specific for flue gas, a coalfired generation plant (at the time owned by Endesa, Italia, S.p.A.) in Monfalcone, Italy, undertook the measure of installing a state-of-the-art FGD (flue gas desulfurization) system at their facility. This system would remove SO2 (sulfur dioxide) from the emissions for the 336 MW coal-fired power station.

Why Strategic Choices — And Water — Could Make People More Energy-Efficient
1/9/2017
At my household, a new year means a new energy and water-use baseline. By that I mean, every month, I look at how much electricity and water I used in comparison to the same month the previous year — so I can try to be as efficient as possible. But I work in the energy field, and I know that’s not a typical New Year’s tradition. Most people don’t examine the trends of their energy-use or spend much time thinking about how to reduce it.

QUA UF Membranes Provide Pretreatment for Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) System
12/1/2015
Hinduja National Power Corporation Ltd. (HNPCL) constructed a 1040 MW coal fired power plant at Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. The power generated from the plant is intended to supply to Andhra Pradesh, as well as to other states through interstate transmission system.

Hydro-Electric Power Station Benefits From The Use Of Siemens Flow Meters
3/30/2020
A power plant plant experienced an accident when a pipe broke after it was sand-dusted during maintenance. The pump location, including the turbines and control room, was completely flooded. Read about the customer's search for a cost-effective flow measurement solution to drive a safety shut-down valve in case the pipe should break again.

If We Don't Talk About Water, Are We Really Talking About Resiliency?
11/3/2017
Energy Secretary Rick Perry is trying to prop up coal and nuclear companies under the guise of enhanced “resiliency.” The Department of Energy’s (DOE) proposal does not define resiliency, nor does it even make clear what resiliency means in the context of the electric grid.
