White Papers and Case Studies For The Power Generation Industry

  1. How To Fix High pH And Comply With The Clean Water Act
    2/19/2014

When the Clean Water Act was enacted, one of the intentions of this legislation was to reduce the untreated industrial waste water burden on publically owned waste water treatment plants (POTW) so that industrial wastewater would only load the treatment plant to the same extent as ordinary household sanitary waste. Industrial facilities that generated process wastewater had to begin pre-treatment of the water before it could be returned to the local POTW.

  2. Tightening NPDES Guidelines: Industrial Plants Beware
    8/23/2013

Multiple methods of dealing with waste stream discharges are examined in light of the recent clampdown on industrial processes. By Brad Buecker, process specialist, Kiewit Power Engineers

  3. FGD Purge Treatment In Coal-Fired Power Generation
    3/6/2015

Stricter environmental policies and regulations worldwide are changing how industry approaches all aspects of business. Likewise, EU (European Union) environmental policies governing air, soil, and water quality have become progressively stringent.

These policy changes affect the power industry’s balance of meeting growing European energy demands with compliance to environmental standards. In order to conform with EU standards specific for flue gas, a coalfired generation plant (at the time owned by Endesa, Italia, S.p.A.) in Monfalcone, Italy, undertook the measure of installing a state-of-the-art FGD (flue gas desulfurization) system at their facility. This system would remove SO2 (sulfur dioxide) from the emissions for the 336 MW coal-fired power station.

  4. First-Of-Its-Kind Zero Liquid Discharge Plant Installed In Egypt
    12/30/2015

The Egyptian Ethylene and Derivatives Company (ETHYDCO) is a joint venture company established with the purpose to produce Ethylene, Butadiene and their derivatives (Polyethylene, Poly Butadiene).

  5. Thermal Mass Flow Meter Supports Feedback Control Loop In Boiler System For Thermal Electric Power Generation
    2/9/2016

To meet China’s growing need for electric power generation, the Guohua Ninghai Power Plant has a total planned operating capacity of 4 x 600 MW [Phase 1]. The plant is located south of Shanghai in Ninghai township, Ningbo city, Zhejiang province and serves the electric power needs in the region. 6. Changxing Power Plant Debuts The World’s First Forward Osmosis-Based Zero Liquid Discharge Application
    8/20/2015

Desalination Technology Transforms 650 m3/day of Abused Industrial Wastewater

  7. Submersible Pumping Technology To Provide Safe Fish Passage
    6/24/2016

The Rocky Reach Dam, with its colorful flowerbeds, visitor’s center and historical and technical museum, is the most significant environmental force in the Pacific Northwest, providing recreation, fishing, and irrigation.

  8. Membrane Degasification -- Chemical Free Alternative For The pharmaceutical industry
    5/2/2017

In treating water for the production of pharmaceuticals, the concentration of gases dissolved in the water plays an important role.

  9. Eliminate CIP And Cut Wastewater Disposal In Half With CCD
    7/31/2014

A high water recovery rate is essential for this well-known soy protein manufacturer.

  10. Platte River Power Authority Restores Cooling Reservoir, Reducing Maintenance Costs And Improving Wildlife Habitat
    3/28/2014

Top-performing coal-fired power plant finds that SolarBee® solar-powered mixers combat blue-green algae in 500-acre reservoir without the need for chemicals or mechanical aeration.
