Many wastewater utilities are under regulatory mandates to reduce effluent nitrogen and phosphorus. When trying to determine the best method for biological nutrient removal (BNR), lifecycle costs are an important factor.
Aqua-Aerobic Systems, Inc. (Loves Park, IL) and Pinnacle Ozone Solutions, LLC (Cocoa, FL) have signed an agreement that confirms Aqua-Aerobic Systems as the exclusive municipal distributor for Pinnacle’s ozone generation systems.
Of course, the whole wastewater treatment equation starts with primary treatment. Although a critical first step in the process, primary treatment rarely receives as much attention from innovators as processes further down the line. It’s about time that changed.
Aerobic granular sludge has been extensively researched over the last two decades as a part of the search for more sustainable wastewater treatment solutions. Conventional activated sludge (CAS) systems have key disadvantages such as slow settling flocculent biomass necessitating large clarifiers and low reactor biomass concentrations (typically 3-5 kgMLSS/m3), large treatment system footprints and relatively high system energy usage. It has been shown at the lab, pilot and the full scale that aerobic granular sludge has distinct advantages, when compared to CAS systems, including improved settling characteristics, which in turn allows for higher biomass concentrations and hence more compact treatment systems.
The AquaNereda® Aerobic Granular Sludge System (AGS) is an innovative biological wastewater treatment technology that provides advanced treatment using the unique features of aerobic granular biomass. This advanced nutrient removal process can reduce footprint up to 75% and energy up to 50% when compared to conventional activated sludge systems.
Facing new limits on acceptable levels of DBPs in the drinking water, as well as age-old complaints about the taste of the water during the summer algal bloom, the North Texas Municipal Water District turned to ozone disinfection as a possible alternative able to address both concerns.
With more than 20 years of application experience in wastewater tertiary processes, cloth media filtration from Aqua-Aerobic Systems has demonstrated the ability to accommodate high solids loading capacity, large hydraulic throughput, a small footprint, and exceptional effluent quality in more than 1,500 installations.
Aqua-Aerobic recently merged with METAWATER USA, introducing the latter’s ozone and ceramic membrane technologies to the United States market. In this Water Online Radio interview, Dave Holland, Senior Applications Engineer with Aqua-Aerobic Systems, discusses the benefits of the new membrane, which he describes as “virtually unbreakable.”
The West Central Conservancy District (WCCD), located in Hendricks County, IN, was formed to resolve sewer issues that the service area was experiencing with the local utilities company in the mid- ’80s.
