SOURCE & DRINKING WATER TREATMENT

Setting The Standard For Effective Chromium-6 Treatment

When California capped chromium-6 in drinking water at 10 ppb in 2014, it became the only state to set a chromium MCL and, in so doing, created a challenge for water providers across the state.  WRT (Water Remediation Technology LLC) has met that challenge with the SMR (Selective Metals Reduction) Process.

WEDECO UV Disinfection Produces Highly Purified Water In Silicon Valley

The Santa Clara Valley Water District in San Jose, CA, required additional water supplies to maintain regional economic vitality for its growing community.

How To Handle Unexpected Contaminants In Water

Read why temporary water treatment system may encounter new or unexpected contaminants that did not initially show up in samples, and what businesses can do in response.

Surface Water Treatment & LT2 Compliance - Surprise, Arizona

The White Tanks Regional Water Treatment Facility (White Tanks) is located in Surprise, Arizona, and treats surface water from the Colorado River that is delivered by a 336 mile (540 kilometer) man-made canal.

DISTRIBUTION & COLLECTION SYSTEMS

Meters Monitor Flow And Provide Pump Protection

A Municipal Water Plant in the Southeast United States needed accurate flow measurement of potable water from individual pumps to the main distribution system. Read the full case study to learn how it was confirmed that the Siemens clamp-on meters provide reliable measurements from outside of the pipe, with reduced time and costs.

Eliminate Your Pump Clogging Caused By Flushables

The flushable market is on the rise, led by marketing efforts to position these products as more convenient, more effective cleaning tools than their dry paper counterparts. It is no surprise that pump clog problems seem to be increasing at the same time.

Lift Station Upgraded After Rainstorm Causes Flood And Electrical Short

Read the full case study to learn how the installation of the three Flygt horizontally mounted dry pit, flood-proof NZ-3171 submersible clog-free pumps immediately offered a 25 percent boost in efficiency at a lift station in Manitoba, Canada, after a motor had shorted out due to excessive moisture, and could not be replaced.

Picking The Perfect Pump

Pumps and pumping systems are like unsung heroes of modern society – quickly and quietly transporting vital water supplies, chemicals and waste to and from locations, which rely upon their consistent, reliable operation.

WASTEWATER TREATMENT

Low-Fouling RO Tech Keeps Replacement Costs Down At Wastewater Reuse Plants

By using Toray's low-fouling polyamide composite membranes, the WTPs at the AMATA estates operated the RO systems for more than five years before requiring replacement of the RO elements. This low rate of replacement has considerably helped the end-user save operational and capital costs and is noted as one of the most successful wastewater reuse plants in Thailand.

Plant's Aeration Output Increased While Electricity Is Decreased

Located in New Haven County, Connecticut, in the eastern USA, the wastewater treatment plant in Meriden has a design inlet flow of 43,911 m3/day (11.6 mgd) with a maximum inlet flow of 143,386 m3/day (38.0 mgd). Upgraded in the 1960s and 1980s, the plant has been in existence since the 1800s.

Optimizing Chemical Dosing Reduces Chemical Use While Meeting Effluent TP Limits

The city of Black River Falls in Wisconsin used chemical treatment with ferric chloride (FeCl3) to achieve their effluent total phosphorus (TP) permit of 1.0 mg/l. Historically, the chemical dosing rate was manually adjusted on a daily basis based on the measured effluent TP concentration. The plant was upgraded with an OSCAR process performance optimizer control system with phosphorus controller, which uses continuous measurement of orthophosphate. Read the full case study to learn more.

The Importance Of Ultrafiltration/Microfiltration Membrane Systems In Reclaiming Industrial Wastewater

Increasing water scarcity, which results in higher water costs, is pushing manufacturers to reclaim and reuse their wastewater.

UTILITY MANAGEMENT

Maximizing AMI Investments Through Broader IIoT Insight

Advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) has received a lot of attention in recent years, typically regarding customer account billing. Other AMI uses within water distribution networks, however, can play equally important roles in reducing non-revenue water (NRW). Consider these contributions of networked flow meter use for automating better insights into water distribution efficiency.

Smart Water: Remote Sensing

Automated metering systems (AMSs) or “smart meters” can provide valuable data for electric and water utilities. Data analytics can be used to improve customer service, boost conservation, monitor the system, and even forecast demand. An ultimate goal might be to eventually monitor everything from streetlight intensity to fire hydrants.

Smart Infrastructure Solutions: The Antidote To AMI Tunnel Vision

For 20 years, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) has been viewed primarily as a cost-efficient meter-reading resource — a key driver behind water utility ROI. More recently, however, utility operations increasingly rely upon AMI capabilities to cope with broader issues ranging from water scarcity to aging infrastructure. Here’s how an expanded view of AMI can benefit water utilities in both the short and long term.

Real-Time Decision Support System Exceeds Expectations -- Buffalo Cuts CSOs By 450 Million Gallons, Reducing Consent Agreement By $145 Million

Recognizing the generally inadequate stormwater capabilities of their existing combined sewer system, the Buffalo Sewer Authority (BSA) began to prepare a comprehensive watershed improvement plan with grey, green and smart sewer solutions.
