Ultraviolet (UV) irradiation is used for multifunctional purposes. UV is most commonly used as an environmentally friendly alternative to chemical disinfection. It’s one of the most effective methods for inactivating harmful pathogens such as Listeria, E.coli, Giardia and chlorine tolerant pathogens like Cryptosporidium. UV is also used for removal of organic and inorganic contaminants, including chlorine, ozone and Total Organic Carbon (TOC).
