Making It Work: 174 Hydrants And 280 Valves Installed In 120 Days

A timeline of 120 days. Construction in the middle of winter, when temperatures were frigid and snow covered the ground. Despite these challenges, Elite Excavating Company of Ohio, Inc., was able to install 174 AMERICAN Flow Control American-Darling MK 73 fire hydrants and 280 resilient wedge gate valves in sizes 6 to 18 inches in three months.

AMERICAN Pipelines Serve New Water Treatment Facility In Alabama

Established in 1823, Huntsville Waterworks was the first municipal water system in Alabama. At the time, the population in the area was only about 1,300 people. Fast forward almost 200 years. The population of the city of Huntsville is now estimated at more than 190,000, and it has been the fastest growing major city in Alabama the past 15 years.

Another First: Zinc-Coated Pipe Installed In Danville, Indiana

The town of Danville, Indiana, recently became the first in the state to specify and install zinc-coated ductile iron pipe. The 1,500 linear feet of 6-inch zinc-coated AMERICAN ductile iron pipe was used in a replacement project. Water Superintendent Jim Russell worked with Kent Elliot of Banning Engineering to specify zinc-coated ductile iron pipe – a product that will improve lifecycle costs and decrease long-term maintenance needs.

One Of Nation’s Largest Water Utilities Moving To Zinc-Coated, V-Bio Wrapped Ductile Iron Pipe

Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) recently updated its specifications so that all ductile iron pipe installed in its system is zinc-coated and uses V-Bio enhanced polyethylene encasement. The zinc coating system is a proven, life extending product for iron pipe that recently became available in domestic markets. Zinc has been used internationally to extend the life of iron pipe for many years. V-Bio enhanced polyethylene encasement provides additional protection for pipe in aggressive soils.

AMERICAN Flow Control recently unveiled the new ALPHA restrained joint for use on its Series 2500 4- to 12-inch Resilient Wedge Gate Valves and its American-Darling and Waterous fire hydrants at the 2016 Water Environment Federation’s Technical Exhibition and Conference in New Orleans.
