Through these pioneering technologies—combined with exceptional engineering expertise—IPR helps industries safely extend both the life and value of their infrastructure. By improving reliability, reducing operational disruptions, and enhancing long‑term sustainability, Henkel’s IPR group plays a vital role in ensuring that the world’s most critical water systems remain resilient for generations to come.

CASE STUDIES

Historic arched tunnels require specialized structural restoration to address severe infiltration and mortar loss. Trenchless geopolymer technology provides a conformable, high-strength lining that stabilizes aging brick and granite structures, ensuring long-term hydraulic performance and structural integrity.

Critical water tunnels require efficient structural renewal to meet strict shutdown schedules. Certified geopolymer mortar provides a cost-effective, high-strength solution that eliminates groundwater infiltration and improves water quality while ensuring a 70-year service life for essential aqueduct systems.

Trenchless geopolymer technology provides a high-strength, structural solution for failing large-diameter arch culverts. This approach eliminates the need for costly bridge replacements, offering a 70-plus-year service life with minimal environmental impact and significantly faster project timelines.

Trenchless rehabilitation provides a sustainable alternative to traditional excavation for failing sewer infrastructure. High-performance geopolymer liners offer structural restoration in highly corrosive environments, minimizing urban disruption while preventing environmental hazards through efficient, spray-applied application techniques.

Industrial repairs at height require lightweight, efficient solutions to maintain production schedules. Under-pressure valve insertion allows for the rapid creation of isolation points on elevated pipelines, ensuring system continuity and safety without the need for extensive shutdowns.

Critical cooling water systems require high-strength, internal rehabilitation to avoid the costs of excavation. Carbon fiber-reinforced polymer systems provide a 50-year standalone structural solution for large-diameter pipelines, ensuring operational reliability and efficient installation during scheduled plant outages.

Revitalizing aging steel penstocks requires high-strength, standalone structural solutions. Advanced carbon fiber systems provide a watertight, durable liner that manages internal pressures and extreme temperatures, restoring full operational capacity to hydroelectric assets while minimizing project costs and downtime.

Upgrading reservoirs for seismic resilience requires high-strength, lightweight solutions. Fiber-reinforced polymer wraps provide essential structural reinforcement without adding dead weight, allowing for flexible, cost-effective installation that ensures long-term utility safety and continued community use of recreational spaces.

Protecting historic marine infrastructure requires durable, environmentally safe solutions. Fiber-reinforced polymer wraps provide an impermeable, high-strength jacket for aging concrete piers, preventing water intrusion and environmental degradation while ensuring long-term structural reliability in sensitive reservoir environments.

Trenchless geopolymer rehabilitation offers a sustainable solution for culvert repair in sensitive ecosystems. Its rapid-curing, low-toxicity properties allow for quick service reinstatement, preserving hydraulic capacity and protecting local water quality and aquatic life without the need for disruptive excavation.

Protecting residential water access during emergency repairs is essential for municipal reliability. Advanced insertion technology creates permanent control points on live, pressurized lines, preventing large-scale service outages and boil-water advisories for thousands of residents.

Critical safety systems must remain operational during repairs. Advanced insertion technology enables the installation of permanent valves on pressurized lines without service interruptions, preventing costly facility shutdowns while ensuring constant fire suppression readiness.

Maintaining water service during infrastructure upgrades is critical for community safety. Innovative insertion technology allows for the creation of permanent isolation points on live pressurized lines, ensuring uninterrupted supply while enhancing long-term grid reliability.

Modernize aging water infrastructure without service interruptions. By installing strategic control points on live lines, municipalities can perform vital repairs and upgrades while maintaining full pressure and fire protection for the entire community.

Jersey City in New Jersey is undergoing a period of development and growth which has seen its population increase by more than 50,000 people in the last 13 years. To cater for this growth, the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority is tasked with maintaining its aging water infrastructure and improving its critical water supply to ensure it can meet the needs of its customers both now and into the future.

FEATURED PRODUCTS

Polymers combined with reinforced fabrics form advanced composite systems used for structural strengthening. LOCTITE Tyfo polymer systems are specially formulated to be used in conjunction with the various LOCTITE Tyfo fabrics and prefabricated systems.

The AVT 2" (50mm) EZ Valve was specifically designed to handle the small diameter water pipelines that are found in high-rise buildings, hospitals, factories, HVAC applications and most commercial buildings as well as refining and petrochemical plants.

GeoPlug water-stop should be applied when material becomes warm and putty like. Press material into patch area by hand or with trowel and hold until patch becomes hard. To stop in-filtration water, seal crack from top to bottom. Continue this process until the patch area is completely filled with GeoPlug water-stop.

The GeoSpray® 61 system is designed for multiple application techniques, including pouring, placing, troweling, spraying, and centrifugal casting.

The EZ Valve is an inline insertion valve that can be installed on water lines and depending on the pipe material, installation takes anywhere from 45 minutes for our smaller valves to 3 hours for our larger range.

EZ Valve Kit 'rent-free' and indefinite. Lease remains in effect as long as the customer remains in compliance with its terms. Six valves to be purchased up front. After 60 days a further six valves must be purchased every six weeks.

The AVT EZ Valve Kit enables safe and efficient installation of the award-winning AVT EZ Valve. The innovative EM (end milling) machines are the only ones of their type on the market that mill a 120o slot across the pipe rather than cutting a coupon or removing a section of the pipe.

Ranked among the industry’s most innovative solutions, the light and compact AVT EZ Valve is designed with a built-in isolation gate that allows the valve to be installed under pressure, a design feature that permits flow through the line while the repair is being made. It is durable, reliable, and certified to industry standards.

Unlike other cementitious liners, the unique GeoSpray mortar chemistry provides superior flexural and compressive strength, as well as ultra-low porosity and high self-bonding which eliminates cold joints.

GeoSpray HCE geopolymer is faster to install than many other repair or rehabilitation products. The result is improved performance and strength with lower total installed costs than alternative methods.
