The Danish Minister For The Environment Promotes Danish Water-Quality Technology In The US

On September 21–25, twelve Danish suppliers of the global water and wastewater industry will be accompanying Danish Export – Water to the water-quality conference WEFTEC 2019 to promote their solutions on the US market. Denmark’s Minister for the Environment Lea Wermelin (S) will travel to Chicago to support these Danish businesses that contribute to Denmark’s exports of green technology.

According to the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, the USA is the second biggest market in the world for water-quality technology and the third-biggest market for exports of Danish water-quality technology. Over the past four years, Danish Export – Water has been attending the annual WEFTEC conference, and this year they will be supported by Denmark’s Minister for the Environment Lea Wermelin, who will be in the US for the UN General Assembly and the SDG summit in New York City.

“In Denmark, we are in a unique situation where almost all of our drinking water comes from untreated groundwater. We are so good at purifying our wastewater that we are now able to bathe in Danish harbors, which were almost uninhabitable for fish just a few decades ago. The interaction of strict environmental requirements imposed on the water sector, governmental support from the Environmental Technology Development and Demonstration Program (MUDP) and innovative companies has enabled Denmark to be at the cutting edge with outright state-of-the-art solutions for water-quality technology. This makes Denmark a leading country in the world in terms of solutions in the areas of groundwater protection, clean drinking water, minimized water wastage and the exploitation of wastewater resources and treatment processes. These technologies are in demand all over the world — not least in the USA — and this is one way Denmark can help improve the environment abroad and create green jobs for Denmark,” says Lea Wermelin, Minister for the Environment.

Lower operating costs
All of the Danish suppliers taking part in WEFTEC will present solutions that can help overcome the challenges of problems such as water shortages. For many years, Denmark has been a front-runner in water-quality and wastewater management, and this is the same know-how that is being exported by these companies all over the world.

“The Danish suppliers are renowned in the global water-quality and wastewater management industry for their ability to provide customized solutions that help ensure higher energy efficiency, innovative water treatment and lower operating costs for customers. The companies can also put this expertise into play when it comes to the treatment and recirculation of water resources, which Americans increasingly need,” says Andreas Julskjær Pedersen, Head of Water, Danish Export Association.

World’s biggest water-quality conference
Participating at WEFTEC 2019 is part of a long-term effort to promote Danish water-quality technology on global markets. The next big step will be IWA 2020, for which companies and water utilities from all over the world will travel to Denmark to learn more about Denmark’s sustainable solutions.

“It means a lot that the minister for the environment is supporting Danish suppliers and helping to fly the flag on one of the biggest water-technology markets in the world. When the IWA is held in Denmark next year, many seeds will have been planted that will help boost Danish companies and improve conditions for presenting themselves to new and existing customers alike,” Andreas Julskjær Pedersen says.

The General Consulate in Chicago and Danish Export – Water will co-host a VIP reception on Sunday, September 22, to mark the visit by the minister for the environment. The attendees will include Danish exhibitors at WEFTEC and invited US sector representatives. In addition, several members of the official Danish delegation will attend, including representatives of DANVA, DI, WTA and Aarhus Vand.
