San Diego police are investigating a potential crime after surveillance video appeared to show a man poisoning a homeowner’s drinking water.

“San Diego police have opened an investigation to find a man responsible for tampering with a homeowner's drinking water in an incident caught on camera. Surveillance video shows the man tip toeing across a [Rolando neighborhood] front porch,” NBC San Diego reported.

“The man, seen with a cigarette tucked behind his ear, crouches down and removes the cap of a five-gallon Sparkletts water jug. Investigators believe he poured liquid concentrate plant fertilizer from a bottle sitting on the porch into the water jug,” the report continued.

“The jugs, delivered by Sparkletts, were sitting on the couple's front porch when their home surveillance camera captured the trespasser, saving them from potential harm,” Fox News reported.

Homeowner Kristina Gagne was confused by the footage because she did not recognize the man. She said he may have had the wrong address.

“It’s bizarre,” she said, per NBC San Diego.

"At first I was mad, but when people started saying 'he tried to poison you, this is attempted poisoning,' that's when I got kind of scared," Gagne told NBC.

“Unfortunately, we live in a world nowadays where you can't even leave anything on your porch without people messing with it, so just be careful,” she told ABC 10 News.

The suspect, if found, could face felony poisoning charges, the report said.

“Plant food contains harmful ingredients that can cause some serious health problems if ingested. The family posted the video on the East County Emergency Facebook Page in hopes of alerting others nearby about what happened,” ABC 10 News reported.
