OPUS® Technology - Optimized Pretreatment and Unique Separation Technology

Source: Veolia Water Technologies

OPUS technology combines a proprietary high rate chemical softening process, MULTIFLO, with filtration, ion exchange, and reverse osmosis operated at an elevated pH in single-pass or double-pass mode to generate high effluent water quality suitable for discharge, recycle or reuse.

Our proprietary OPUS™ technology is specifically designed for feed water with high concentrations of silica, organics, hardness, boron and particulates. It is ideally suited for applications requiring high recovery rates, effective fouling control and boron removal.

HOW IT WORKS
In the OPUS™ technology, the processes preceding the RO are designed to reduce the hardness, metals and suspended solids in the feed water to the RO. The RO operates at an elevated pH, which effectively controls biological, organic and particulate fouling, eliminates scaling caused by silica, and improves silica and boron rejection.

In applications where the feed water has high dissolved gases and excess alkalinity, degasification is employed with the addition of an acid to reduce the solids generated in the subsequent chemical softening process as well as the alkaki needed to raise the pH. The water is then softened in a MULTIFLO™ process, our proprietary high rate chemical softening and thickening technology.

Water from the MULTIFLO™ is further treated with media filtration, ion exchange softening, and cartridge filtration. These treatment steps further reduce hardness, metals and suspended solids without pH adjustment. Removing the total hardness and metals eliminates scaling of the RO membranes that could otherwise be caused by calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, calcium fluoride, barium sulfate, strontium sulfate, iron and manganese precipitates.

The pretreated water is then pressurized through an RO system that is operated at an elevated pH in either single- or double-pass mode, depending upon the application, to reduce total dissolved solids, silica, boron, and organics, resulting in a high quality permeate with low waste volumes.

On-site pilot-scale testing is available to ensure the results for your wastewater.
