A strong sewage smell has plagued the people of Vallejo, CA for months. The foul odors have been coming from the Vallejo Wastewater Treatment Plant, which has been undergoing a significant retrofitting project. Thankfully, the worst appears to be over, and relief is nearly in sight.

The project involves refurbishing one of the plant’s two bio towers and has been ongoing for over a year. But on the hottest days of the summer, the odor was drifting north for miles. This is partially the result of a reduction in wastewater treatment capacity –– the remaining tower has been handling double the load and failing to contain smells.
