How Continuous Measurement Can Aid in Alum Feed
In this webinar we will be evaluating an interesting application to prepare the raw water from a reservoir for feeding into a local potable water distribution network.
Aluminum sulphate is used as a coagulant to remove particulates, like dissolved organic carbon, which can be suspended in the raw water. After coagulation, this alum acts as a flocculant, allowing particles to cling together forming larger particles which in turn fall from suspension and settle in the bottom of sedimentation tanks. Clean water is taken from the top and moved on to the disinfection stage of the plant.
The use of two magmeters as measurement points can aid in pacing the feed of Alum. Money savings are realized by proportionally matching the Alum feed to the water flow rates rather than attempting to add Alum by totalized flow or on a timed basis. Given the highly corrosive properties of Aluminum Sulphate, using KROHNE’s electrodeless ceramic magmeters can also reduce costs associated with the alternative exotic metals needed for chemical compatibility.
Key learning objectives:
- How aluminum sulfate is used in raw water processing
- How magmeters can optimize dosing of aluminum sulfate
- How ceramic electrodeless mags work and how they can benefit your applications
