GE's UF Systems Treat Surface Water For Giardia, Crypto And Viruses

Trevose, PA — GE Water & Process Technologies (W&PT), a unit of General Electric Company, provides ultrafiltration (UF) systems for a range of municipal applications such as surface water treatment for the production of potable water. Other applications of GE's' UF systems include pretreatment for seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) systems and water reuse applications.

GE's UF systems utilize hollow fiber UF membranes. The membrane systems have two modes of operation – a production mode where feed is forced through the fibers to make product, and a backwash mode, where some of the filtrate is forced back through the membranes to remove any solids.

GE's UF systems are certified with highest removal credits granted, providng greater than 4 log removal (99.99%), as demonstrated in third party testing, of viruses, giardia cysts and Cryptosporidium oocysts from surface water sources. GE offers a range of UF systems from 25 gpm to 100+ million gpd plants. Multiple, identical processing trains are typically used to create large capacity systems such as the 78 mgd UF system, which is in the commissioning phase for the City of Minneapolis. Pilot plants are available to demonstrate system performance.
