Project Being Completed by Star Controls

Within the Miami metropolitan area, Deerfield Beach is home to 75,018 residents. The utility has chosen Star Controls and VTScada monitoring and control software to complete a new SCADA project that will monitor all 76 lift stations for wastewater and force main valves.

Laurie Kusmaul, Sales and Project Engineer for Star Controls, describes the system, “[They are] using a combination of Gen 1 and Gen 2 MultiSmart Controllers and pump controllers by Xylem and CalAmp Viper SC radios on 200 range frequency. The next best move for the utility to make, after they made the intelligent decision to purchase the MultiSmarts as a standard for all the sites, was to use VTScada for the SCADA software solution. The screens and tags are already there! It would take months of programming the screens to get half of the information on any other SCADA platform.”

“This installation replaces the existing iFix application. Previously they were only able to monitor pump status (running, not running, in alarm) and communication fails to each site. Now they are able to view exceptional amounts of data from each station by using the pre-configured MultiSmart tag type in VTScada,” continues Kusmaul.

“The [VTScada] feature that was so helpful during the project was that one config file could define all the sites. “
