Atlanta Gold Inc. Announces Continuing Compliance With The U.S. Clean Water Act
Atlanta Gold Inc. announces that its subsidiary, Atlanta Gold Corporation ("AGC") has continued to maintain compliance with the United States Clean Water Act for the past four months. The Company's innovative water treatment facility installed in October 2012 and expanded in 2013, is treating water discharge from the 900 level adit of the historic Atlanta mine. The expanded facility became fully functional in September of 2013 and since early October, has been successful in improving the quality of the water to standards better than the effluent compliance thresholds set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency ("EPA") for arsenic, iron and suspended solids. The water treatment facility is an integral part of the Company's overall environmental plan.
"We are very proud of our water treatment facility. It has removed the contamination emanating from the historic (1917) mine tunnel and flowing into Montezuma Creek, a tributary of the Boise River, and changed it to one of the cleanest water sources," said Eric Berentsen, Vice President of AGC. "We made various upgrades to the system in the past four months eliminating chemical additives and the need for electrical power. The system upgrades also expanded our capacity to treat increased flows during high run-off years. Any time that you can reduce or eliminate a contaminant, this is a success and to do so to a virtually non-detectable level is a significant win for all concerned."
All water samples are submitted to Analytical Laboratories, Inc. located in Boise, Idaho, an EPA certified lab. The EPA standards and the results achieved by AGC during the fourth quarter of 2013 and January 2014 were as follows:
