Like most digital technology, the move from traditional to smart water meters seems like an inevitable step in the march towards progress. However, due to cost and regulatory concerns, many utilities have yet to make the transition.

To learn more about the obstacles that utilities face in moving towards smart metering technology, Water Online spoke with Richard Lowrie, water and wastewater industry manager for KROHNE. Lowrie gave his sense of what’s standing between utilities and meter upgrades, explained the advantages of transitioning, and described a product he uses to convince customers to take the leap.
