CH2M HILL's Udai P. Singh Takes Office As President Of The Environmental And Water Resources Institute Of ASCE On Oct. 1

Singh, Vice President of the firm's Environmental Services Business Group, will become the President of the Environmental and Water Resources Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers, effective Oct. 1. Two years ago he was elected to lead this professional society for a four-year term on its governing board. Dr. Singh has now completed one year each as Vice President and President-Elect as a part of his term.
EWRI is a specialty organization of more than 25,000 environmental and water resources engineers and scientists within the ASCE and is the organization's largest institute. As President of EWRI, Dr. Singh will work with EWRI and ASCE staff in the organization's Reston, Va., headquarters. He also will work with hundreds of active EWRI committee and council members in the areas of water supply, sanitation, management; climate change, solid waste, hazardous waste, standards development, air quality, hydrology, low-impact development, and environmental sustainability. EWRI is a recognized source for environmental and water resources information and knowledge exchange.
"During my term as President, I will strive to bring more recognition to EWRI of ASCE as a leader for professionals who plan, design, construct, and operate environmentally sound and sustainable solutions impacting air, land, and water resources," says Dr. Singh.
A career employee with CH2M HILL, Dr. Singh joined the firm as a water resources engineer in the Gainesville, Fla., office in 1974. Ten years later he transferred to the firm's San Francisco Bay Area office at the request of US Environmental Protection Agency to manage its highest priority Superfund site in EPA Region 9. For the past two decades Dr. Singh has served as senior program manager for some of EPA's largest Superfund contracts. He now is based in CH2M HILL's Oakland, Calif., office. The programs and projects he oversees have received high performance evaluation ratings from EPA as well as commendations and national awards.
Dr. Singh is a prolific writer, having published more than 50 technical papers in the field of environmental and water resources engineering. He co-authored a book entitled Hazardous Waste Site Remediation Management, and edited seven books on environmental engineering. As a former civil engineering graduate, this year he received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from his undergraduate alma mater, the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur, India. Dr. Singh completed his graduate degrees in water resources and environmental engineering from Clemson University and University of Florida, respectively.
Created in 1999, the Environmental & Water Resources Institute is a civil engineering specialty institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the country's oldest national engineering society. EWRI services are designed to complement ASCE's traditional civil engineering base and to attract new categories of members (non-civil engineer allied professionals) who seek to enhance their professional and technical development.
