Flushable wipes, rags, and other fabric or fibrous materials can clog or jam pumps. In the best-case scenario, this forces a truck roll to unclog it. In the worst case, it can cause backups or overflows, as well as damage equipment. For years the only viable solution was to install chopper pumps or grinders. But this often salvages the pumps at the expense of the treatment process, as the chopped fibers slip through bar screens. This can cause problems for downstream equipment. Not to mention the fact that these materials can often re-weave downstream or congeal with fats, oils, and grease to become a new, more complex problem.
