Whites Concrete's Pre-Cast Sealwall Saves Time At Chemical Plant

For the storage of treated industrial effluent, Whites Concrete has completed the supply of a series of Sealwall tank systems at a major chemical plant in Newport, South Wales.

Each tank at the 126-hectare site is fitted with a special biological aerated fixed film, made by Envirobac, with whom Whites Concrete has worked with for over a decade.

Containing effluent that utilises the waste-consuming abilities of film-forming bacteria, the tanks were installed with a significant reduction in installation time, thanks to the modular design of Sealwall and Whites Concrete’s capability to supply pre-cast units.

Envirobac’s Managing Director, Alan Ross, commented: “Whites Concrete consistently deliver top quality products - and a service to match. Newport was no exception. The company are also very helpful when we adapt new products or develop existing ranges”.

Sealwall is designed for the formation of precast concrete tanks with depths up to 4m in a circular or rectangular layout. Offering a reduction in build time of up to 50% - and a reduction in overall costs of up to 34%, the units benefit from a unique jointing system that ensures a watertight and robust connection between adjacent panels.

With a large surface area in continuous contact with both oxygen and effluent, an ideal environment for bacterial growth has been created at the Newport site, with Envirobac’s fixed film helping exceed the planned performance of pollutant removal by almost fifty per cent more than expected.
