Veolia Will Treat The Springvale Mount Piper Power Plant Wastewater In Australia

Springvale Joint Venture and Energy Australia has selected Veolia to deliver and operate the new Springvale Mount Piper Power Station Water Treatment Plant. Veolia will operate and maintain the plant and a pipeline linking the 2 sites under a 15 year contract.

Located west of Sydney in Lithgow, New South Wales, the Springvale Mine produces the coal used by the nearby Mount Piper Power Station. The new water treatment plant will ensure environmental and operational compliance in relation to water outflows. It will allow the continued operation of the mine and power plant, which provides 15% of New South Wales’ power.

There are three main deliverables for this project, which include the construction of a 16 km water pipeline connecting the two sites, the treatment and reuse of the mine water, and the implementation of a brine treatment eliminating liquid discharge.

Construction of Springvale Water Treatment Plant is scheduled for completion mid-2019.
