VARI-POND Patented Level Control

Westfalia Separator now offers a decanter centrifuge that regulates itself, while it is running, to provide the most precise thickening of combined or waste activated sludge for maximum digester efficiency. The innovative feature that allows for this is Vari-Pond, a patented self-adjusting weir that senses process variations and adjusts the pond level in the centrifuge accordingly. This maintains optimum concentrations and maximizes the digester SRT without sacrificing mixing efficiency. Side-by-side tests in the Phoenix, AZ municipal water treatment plant, using identical equipment with and without the Vari-Pond feature, demonstrate the ability to maintain thickened sludge concentrations of +/-0.5% of the desired concentration. Solids recovery levels are over 95% with minimal polymer dosages. Benefits include overall cost reductions due to reduced downtime, increased throughput, reduced operator attention, and improved digester efficiency.
