Dan Shaver, Manager of Business Development at Aquionics, discusses how the latest trend toward UV LEDs fits into the disinfection space.
“We see an opportunity for UV LEDs to create new markets and benefit new customers who may have not considered UV in the past because of some of the limitations of mercury technology and mercury lamps,” says Shaver. “The food and beverage space is just one area where we've really seen UV LEDs take off.”
With any situation where there is a batch process, where there isn’t continuous UV disinfection, there’s an on-off function that you can't do with mercury lamps. With UV LEDs, you can power cycle those as many times as you want, and it doesn't affect the output or duration of the UV LED.
