USFilter Provides Memcor Microfiltration System For Water Treatment Plant Upgrade In New South Wales, Australia
USFilter, through its sister company, Veolia Water Systems in Australia, supplied the CMF-S system to treat surface water from the Duckmaloi River and Oberon Dam. The new system was designed to upgrade an existing horizontal clarifier, and will allow the plant to meet increasingly stringent water quality requirements, including those for cryptosporidium and Giardia removal.
The CMF-S system consists of a single membrane filtration cell containing 480 modules. The cell includes an "expansion filler" that can be easily replaced with membrane modules, resulting in a ten-percent increase in capacity at a minimal cost.
Says Dawn Guendert, Membrane Product Manager at USFilter, "The CMF-S system is so compact that it fits in the area of the old clarifier's flocculation zone. The area where the old clarifier's settling zone was can now be used to store the product water. And, because the CMF-S system was specifically designed to backwash via the existing clarifier sludge removal system, the client was able to simplify the project and save money."
