Upgrade To The Water And Wastewater Infrastructure In Clonee, Bracetown And Dunboyne

Project will increase the capacity of the network supplying homes and businesses

Irish Water has submitted a Compulsory Purchase Order to An Bord Pleanála to acquire the necessary lands to upgrade the water and wastewater infrastructure for homes and businesses in Clonee, Bracetown and Dunboyne.

The project involves the construction of a new water pumping station at Loughshallagh and the installation of approximately 4.5km of water and sewer networks. These necessary works will increase the capacity of the network supplying homes and businesses. The project will also provide an extension to the existing networks to supply business customers in Piercetown and Clonee and to support current and future economic development in the area.

The CPO relates to permanent wayleaves and temporary construction rights for the project. If granted, the CPO will authorise Irish Water to construct, lay, keep, operate, maintain, renew, repair and inspect the proposed infrastructure required. It is expected that work will commence in the summer 2018.

A more reliable water service
Commenting on the project, Michael Tinsley Infrastructure Portfolio Delivery Manager, said “This project will benefit residents and businesses in Clonee, Bracetown and Dunboyne. It forms part of Irish Water’s investment to upgrade the water and wastewater infrastructure in the area to support current and future development in these communities, in particular in the Piercetown area. Once complete, customers in Clonee and Dunboyne will have a more reliable water service.”

Capital investment in the region of €700M per year is needed for a sustained period of several decades to address the poor condition of Ireland’s water infrastructure. Works have been prioritised to address the most critical issues in line with commitments outlined in Irish Water’s Business Plan up to 2021. Delivery of the business plan will involve a €5.5B investment in capital spending on drinking water and wastewater quality and capacity and new infrastructure up to 2021 while achieving efficiencies of €1.6B.
