Flowmeter portability is a growing trend as improved flow measurement accuracy and longer battery life allow operators to monitor flow without large capital investment. Good applications for portable flowmeters include times where a leak or blockage is presumed and needs to be verified; locations where flow needs to be measured occasionally or in maintenance situations where your in-place flow solution is down for a period of time.
“Ultrasonic meters are ideal for portability,” explains Cheryl Ades Anspach in this Water Online Radio interview. “They come with transducers that clamp on the outside of the pipe and they send an ultrasonic wave through the pipe and through the fluid and that’s how they measure it. There is no tapping and no pipe cutting. You can easily remove it and go on to the next location.”
