Training Is A Dirty Word In Water And Wastewater

Having been in the water and wastewater industry for over 33 years, and as the owner and founder of 360water Inc., I have been plagued by the fact that “training” is a dirty word.  Utilities will spend, without a blink, hundreds of thousands of dollars for sidewalks that lead their staff to expensive equipment that they aren’t even sure their staff knows how to maintain.  Over the years, the industry has gotten smarter and started coming up with ways of getting training services and support without calling out “training."  But if a rose is called by any other, does it not smell as sweet? “It” meaning training, is now sometimes called an asset management tool, or part of the information management program.  But for goodness’ sake, don’t say training.
