As environmental regulations governing wastewater streams become ever more stringent, removal of trace contaminants, which previously were not of concern, is becoming more common. The concentration of contaminants such as arsenic, boron, chromium, lead, perchlorate, phosphorus, selenium, and vanadium may now have to be reduced to levels previously not required.
While traditional processes such as precipitation and ion exchange can be used, in many situations they present serious drawbacks including cost, operating complexity, process footprint, and the possibly hazardous nature of the waste generated.
The Isolux Technologies Division of MEL Chemicals, Inc. has developed adsorption based processes that can treat these contaminants using its patented zirconium based media. Examples of its application to a variety of industrial wastewater problems are given.
