Finer bar screening at wastewater treatment plants can increase the volume and complexity of screenings that downstream washer-compactors must process. High concentrations of fats, oils, and grease (FOG), bulky debris, and other difficult materials can contribute to inlet bridging, slip flow, mechanical wear, and inadequate dewatering. The Gen 4 Washer Compactor addresses these challenges with horizontally stacked, counter-rotating 10-inch dual augers that create positive displacement and help prevent material from slipping backward around the flights. The wider inlet hopper accommodates larger debris, while the expanded strainer basket provides increased dewatering surface area and supports processing rates exceeding 400 cubic feet per hour. The system is designed to achieve up to 60% dry solids, 84% volume reduction, and 70% weight reduction when optimized. An integrated radar level sensor and variable frequency drive automatically adjust operating speed based on hopper conditions, helping reduce unnecessary high-speed operation and mechanical wear. Four high-flow spray nozzles with interchangeable tips allow operators to adjust washing performance, while an external compaction adjustment provides control over plug dryness and organic capture. Duplex 2205 stainless steel augers, high-torque drive assemblies, and externally accessible maintenance points further support durability and serviceability for demanding fine-screening applications.
