The Straight Scoop On UPC/IAPMO Listed Grinder Pump Systems

Source: Pentair, Ltd

By Kevin Clemons

At least two major sewage grinder pump manufacturers advertise their systems as having UPC/IAPMO listings. There has been some confusion as to what this listing really means.

IAPMO, (International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials), Research and Testing is the primary agency tasked with testing and approving products required or desiring to carry the UPC (Uniform Plumbing Code) certification mark.

Plumbing products may be certified to a number of various specifications. Pentair’s grinder pump systems are certified to the IAPMO PS 52-2006 standard. This standard is officially entitled “Material and Property Standard for Sumps and Sewage ejector Tanks With or Without a Pump”.
