From Hype To Reality: SWAN's 5th Digital Twin Workshop To Show The Evolution Of Global Digital Twin Deployment

Washington, DC to serve as the site of the SWAN Forum’s 5th Digital Twin Workshop on May 24th, 2022. Live-stream will be available for virtual attendees.

Digital Twins are becoming increasingly relevant and impactful in the fast moving world of smart water. Notable drivers behind this movement are active utility and industry thought leaders actively involved in the global SWAN Digital Twin Work Group, an initiative of the Smart Water Networks Forum (SWAN).

Since the Work Group’s inception in 2019 by SWAN Ambassador Gigi Karmous-Edwards, who serves as the group’s co-chair, a number of workshops, subgroups and outputs poured in to collectively establish a baseline definition to guide further discussions, as well an architectural framework to help visualize a digital twin from the physical system through to the user experience.

In this exciting May 24th workshop sponsored by active SWAN Members and contributors Royal HaskoningDHV (will discuss machine-learning based anomaly detection) and GoAigua (will cover sewer networks), attendees will collectively explore digital twins from the perspective of deployments and global use cases across all aspects of the water cycle, from inception to insights captured. According to lead workshop facilitator Gigi Karmous-Edwards, “By uncovering the different phases, iterations, and perceptions of digital twin project outcomes, we’ll be better positioned to separate hype from reality.”

As one of the official pre-SWAN 2022 Conference sessions, this event builds off of a series of successful webinars, internal calls and past workshops held throughout the year. Featuring a keynote led by NEOM, interactive roundtables and utility presenters from Clean Water Services, DC Water, City of Houston, Anglian Water, Vitens, the Tarragona Water Consortium, Greater Western Water, VCS Denmark, the City of Greensboro and additional thought leaders, this event will provide further insights into digital twin phases, journeys and outcomes.

Lastly, as an additional highlight, this Workshop will mark the launch of the SWAN Digital Twin Readiness Guide co-led by Brown and Caldwell, DHI, and many member and partner contributors passionate about the potential of Digital Twins to revolutionize the way water utilities are managed. This must-read document, supported by global case studies, paves the way for all communities to have a better grasp of digital twin implementation and the concrete steps they can expect to encounter along the journey.
