SW Colorado centralized treatment project underway

The Cortez Sanitation District has selected Richard P. Arber Associates of Denver to provide engineering design and construction management services for the District's $10 million wastewater centralization project. Final design is anticipated to be completed in July 2001 with construction beginning in September 2001.
One of the unique aspects of this project is the replacement of three existing wastewater treatment plants with one centralized 1.6 million gallon per day treatment facility. The proposed treatment facility will be located at the existing Southwest plant site. A centralized plant was chosen to best meet the needs of the existing and future demands of the district. Pumping stations will be constructed at the two other treatment plant sites to allow all of the wastewater from the community to be treated at the new central plant. The treatment plant and pumping stations will be designed for ease of future expansion to the 20 year projected capacity of 2.1 million gallon per day.
District Manager Bill Smith commented, "We are excited about design and construction of a new centralized plant. This new plant will better serve our existing customer base of 9,600 and provide ease for future plant expansion. Additionally, our consolidation will streamline our operation and maintenance efforts".
