Sustainability Of Ductile Iron Pipe

Source: U.S. Pipe

What makes a pipe truly sustainable? In this session, Jess Hall, Sales Engineer at U.S. Pipe, explains how ductile iron pipe fits naturally into a circular economy. U.S. Pipe manufactures its pipe from more than 90% recycled scrap, about three-quarters of it post-consumer, and the pipe can be recycled again at the end of a service life that can exceed 100 years. Jess also shares results from a wildfire test in which an HDSS restrained joint survived 45 minutes at 1,500°F, then held 500 psi with zero leaks. Other topics include a life cycle cost comparison showing why ductile iron can outperform PVC over a 100-year design life, a recommended specification for sourcing sustainable pipe, and future manufacturing advances such as electric induction melting.

U.S. Pipe, a Quikrete company, has supplied ductile iron pipe, restrained joint pipe, fittings, and gaskets to the water and wastewater industries since 1899.
