STOPPLE PROCEDURES

Source: T.D. Williamson, Inc.
T.D. Williamson, Inc.: This procedure is general in nature and only represents the major steps to be considered while doing a STOPPLE application. It is not intended to be used for training or as an absolute guideline. The TDW technician on site will advise in the proper usage of TDW Equipment.

STOPPLE PROCEDURES

1. All STOPPLE Fittings Should Be Attached Prior To The Arrival Of TDW Services.

2. Meet With Customer.

  • Discuss job with man in charge to assure a complete understanding of what is to be accomplished.
  • Verify line contents, pressure, temperature, pipe wall thickness, direction of flow and flow rate.
  • Inventory TDW equipment, check to be sure no damage has occurred in shipment.

3. Check Lock-O-Ring Flange On The STOPPLE Fittings.

  • Extend and retract segments to make sure they work freely and count and record turns required to operate.
  • Clean bore of fitting and flange face.
  • Build support beneath fitting to support weight of equipment.
  • Check gaskets so that no part will extend into bore of fittings.

4. Install TDW Sandwich Valve.

  • Turn valve in horizontal position and rig from all four lifting eyes so that valve will be parallel to face of flange on fitting.
  • Raise valve off ground and open. Leave valve open.
  • Clean valve face.
  • Install gasket.
  • Lower valve onto fitting slowly, keeping studs free in flange bolt holes. Watch for possible gasket damage and make sure the gasket does not extend into the bore.
  • Align bore of valve with bore of fitting.
  • Install nuts and tighten evenly.
  • Extend and retract segments again to make sure they operate freely.
  • Install gasket on top of valve.

5. Install 2-in. Equalization/Purge Valve On Thread-O-Ring Fitting.

  • Check Thread-O-Ring Fitting for cleanliness.
  • Check valve for full 2-in. bore and operation.
  • Install valve using thread tape or compound and leave valve open.

6. Make 2-in. Equalization/Purge Hot-tap.

  • Assemble drill and 2-in. threaded adapter to T-101.
  • Install T-101 on valve and install bleeder valve in machine.
  • Perform pressure test. Test pressure to be determined by customer.
  • Perform hot tap.
  • Open bleeder valve to relieve pressure and remove machine.

7. Assemble Hot-Tapping Machine.

8. Make STOPPLE Plugger Hot-tap.

  • Install tapping machine on TDW Sandwich Valve and tighten flange bolts evenly.
  • Fitting and al joints below valve must be tested before starting tap. Test pressure to be determined by customer.
  • Connect hydraulic hoses from power unit to tapping machine for air line from air compressor for air driven machines.
  • Perform hot tap.
  • Close sandwich valve.
  • Relieve trapped pressure through bleeder valve.
  • Remove tapping machine from Sandwich valve.

9. Install STOPPLE Sealing Element.

  • O.D. of leading edge of sealing element must correspond with pipe I.D.

10. Install STOPPLE Plugging Machine.

  • Install new gasket.
  • Install STOPPLE Plugging Machine on Sandwich valve.
  • Receive permission to set STOPPLE.
  • Open Sandwich valve.
  • Set the STOPPLE Plugging machine.

11. Relieve Pressure In The Isolated Section Of Line.

  • After the plugging machine is set and locked into place, pressure can be relieved through the blow down connection.
  • It can be determined at this point if STOPPLE Plugging Machine is holding.
  • If not, may be necessary to equalize pressure in line, retract plugging machine, and change sealing element.

12. Customer To Make tie-ins, Repair, Or Installation Of New Piping.

13. Equalize Pressure The Isolated Pipe Section.

  • Connect high pressure hose or piping from the STOPPLE Plugging Machine to the equalization connection on the isolated section.
  • Purge air from the equalization connection.
  • When air is purged, close equalization valve, and pressure will equalize.

14. Retract STOPPLE Plugging Head.

  • When pressure is equalized, leave 2-in. valve on plugging machine and 2-in. connection on line open.
  • Raise STOPPLE Plugging Head.
  • Close Sandwich Valve.
  • Close 2-in. Valve on line, but leave 2-in. valve on STOPPLE Housing open.
  • Open bleeder valve to relieve trapped pressure.

15. Remove STOPPLE Plugging Machine.

  • Remove bleeder valve and 2-in. valve from STOPPLE Housing.
  • Remove plugging machine from Sandwich Valve.

16. Attach The Lock-O-Ring Plug On The Tapping Machine.

17. Install Lock-O-Ring Plug In The Lock-O-Ring Flanged Fitting.

  • Install Tapping machine on Sandwich Valve.
  • Open Sandwich valve.
  • Install Lock-O-Ring Plug in flange.
  • Remove tapping machine from Sandwich Valve.
  • Remove sandwich valve.
  • Install blind flange and tighten bolts evenly.

18. Install 2-in. Thread-O-Ring Completion Plug.

  • Install plug holder and 2-in. threaded adapter on T-101.
  • Install plug on plug holder.
  • Install T-101 on 2-in. valve.
  • Open 2-in. valve.
  • Install Thread-O-Ring plug into fitting.
  • Remove T-101, remove valve, and install 2-in. high pressure pipe cap.

19. Repackage All Equipment Properly And Securely For Return Shipment.
