Stantec And The Metropolitan Sewer District Of Greater Cincinnati (MSDGC) Are Utilizing e-Builder For Its Lick Run Greenway Project

Stantec, a global project management and design firm, has engaged e-Builder, the leading cloud-based construction program management information solution, to provide capital project management software to MSDGC for the Lick Run Greenway Project. Stantec is providing Program and Construction Management Services and has incorporated the use of e-Builder’s solution to manage this $90M consent decree project.

Developed KPI’s and streamlined processes
Stantec and MSDGC incorporated e-Builder to streamline the submission, review and disposition of submittals, RFIs, and other construction administration related processes during the course of the project. Given the large and complex nature of the project, coupled with an aggressive schedule to meet the federal consent decree deadline, the coordination of the reviews were critical to the success of the program. With the streamlined process in place, Stantec was able to design custom Business Intelligence reports and dashboards to track Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) which are used to demonstrate performance and identify potential stumbling blocks before they cause delays.

To-date, the streamlined RFI processes that was implemented has resulted in a reduction in processing time from 13 days to 5 days and submittals from 27 days to 11 days.

Created a central hub for project information and communication
One of the challenges facing the project was a need for a central tracking and reporting system for the entire project team. This included Stantec, MSD, General Contractor, and the Design Engineer. Each stakeholder had varying methods for tracking approvals and review, e-Builder’s solution provided a central hub for information, and most importantly, communication. Since its integration, the centralized system has resulted in enhanced productivity and a successful project delivery.

“The automation provided by e-Builder and the process changes we’ve implemented are going to go a long way towards ensuring an on-time delivery of this project. Our existing processes, while effective, were not scalable for a project of this size.” – Pat Arnette, Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati (MSDGC)

About The Project
The Lick Run Greenway project is part of a federal consent decree to reduce combined sewer overflows (CSOs) into local rivers and streams and Mill Creek. As part of the mitigation plan, The Cincinnati MSD must reduce CSOs into the Mill Creek by 1.78 billion gallons annually by 2018. The central element of MSD’s Lick Run Project is the Lick Run Greenway that will convey storm water and surface drainage from the watershed to the Mill Creek through a mile-long constructed waterway consisting of a large underground box conduit and a surface channel that will mimic a natural stream. In addition to reducing the storm-water entering the large combined sewer that serves this area and the discharges to Mill Creek, the channel will also serve to convey flows associated with a 100-year storm event safely through the area to minimize flooding issues. The Greenway will be located in the Cincinnati neighborhood of South Fairmount.
