San Diego, CA — SonTek/YSI announces the release of the three NEW versions of its popular Argonaut-SL current and profiling systems-the SL3000, SL1500 and the SL500.

Now smaller, sleeker and even more powerful, the SL series allows customers to:

  • Measure water velocity in bodies of water previously considered "immeasurable"
  • Measure in shallower water conditions, in narrower channels
  • Expand their applications options, with more frequencies to choose from
  • Instantly and easily calculate discharge with FlowPack velocity Indexing software now a standard feature
Designed for side mounting on bridges, canal walls, riverbanks, or other vertical structures, the SL's low profile housing simplifies installation and can now be used in channels as small as you can jump across, to rivers as wide as the Amazon! A summary of what is new:
  • Sleek, low-profile housings specifically designed for side mounting.
  • Blanking distance on horizontal beams reduced by up to 60%
  • Minimum vertical beam distance reduced by up to 50%
  • SonTek TrueCompass/Tilt sensor now standard in the SL1500 and SL500 models.
The SL3000 is the newest, smallest and most affordable member of the SL product family, and is custom designed for use in very shallow or narrow channels. An old favorite, the SL1500, gets a complete makeover, with a sleek new housing and dramatic improvements in reducing the minimum measurable distances on both the vertical beam (level) and horizontal beams (velocity.) Finally, the flagship and choice for the larger channels SL500 is "leaner and meaner" as it now weighs only 6lbs, as compared to its 24lb predecessor, making for easier transport and installation in wider, deeper environments.

"Ten years ago we pioneered the concept of horizontal (side-looking) acoustic Doppler applications. We are now happy to be able to build on that with these major enhancements" says Director of Global Marketing Development, Chris Ward. "The design considerations resulted from a lot of customer input on how the products are used. Both the new firmware and ergo metric features will open up more applications and save on installation and maintenance time."
