Solids Optimization In Wastewater Treatment Plants

Source: LuminUltra Technologies Ltd.

Traditional municipal wastewater treatment plants typically rely on conventional tests such as Total Suspended Solids (TSS) and possibly Volatile Suspended Solids (VSS) to attempt to quantify biomass. Although useful, these tests represent much more than just the living biomass and include things like dead biomass and inert material and are therefore relatively irresponsive to process changes. As such, most plants have a larger than required solids inventory. With the use of LuminUltra’s 2nd generation Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) monitoring technology, the active biomass population can be easily determined in a matter of minutes; providing the basis for much more effective inventory control and subsequently facilitates total process optimization.
