SCHOTT Reveals Efficient UV Water Purifier For Point-Of-Use Applications

SCHOTT has unveiled a new compact, long-lasting UV water purification module for point-of-use applications in home appliances, water dispensers, faucets, and other applications. The open discharge UV Module will be revealed at WQA Aquatech USA, where SCHOTT Manager of Product Development Joerg Blechschmidt will deliver a lecture about how SCHOTT adapted the design of large-scale UV disinfection systems for small scale uses without compromising efficiency. SCHOTT will also be exhibiting the modules at booth 934.

There has been a long-standing need for an effective point-of-use disinfection system, as bacteria such as Legionella and E. Coli can be transmitted through piped water distribution systems, even with high incoming water quality. Infections from these waterborne microorganisms can threaten health, especially at hospitals, where patients are already vulnerable to disease. Point-of-use UV water disinfection ensures optimum water quality to prevent such infections.

The open discharge UV Module’s compact geometry allows for easy integration with faucets as well as dish washers, washing machines, and other appliances. The module is long-lasting, requires little maintenance, and is highly energy efficient—even frequent power cycling has no effect on the life of the UV lamp. Constructed of reliable and long-lasting components, the module is built to outlast the typical appliance for which it might be installed.

Dr. Joerg Blechschmidt will detail the new reactor design that makes this UV disinfection module possible in his lecture at WQA Aquatech USA, titled “Design of a Small, Efficient UV Disinfection Module,” which will be held on Wednesday, April 3 from 1:00 to 1:25 p.m. at AquaStage 3 inside the exhibition hall.

“Finally we’ve adapted the efficient disinfection capabilities of large-scale UV purification systems for points of use in homes, offices, and hospitals,” said Joerg Blechschmidt, Business Development Manager at SCHOTT. “SCHOTT’s plug-and-play modules fit low flow-rate applications to ensure the cleanliness of water. In addition, SCHOTT can customize its compact UV module to specification in order to meet performance requirements for any application.”
