Reducing Effluent Waste While Using Less Energy With CCD
A pesticide manufacturing plant in Gujarat, India produces up to 6,000 metric tons per year of various pesticides for agricultural use. The high amount of waste produced by the plant led to it establishing a zero liquid discharge (ZLD) goal to eliminate liquid waste and its impact on the environment. A ZLD process is comprised of numerous treatment steps, including reverse osmosis (RO), which typically have high capital and operating costs. The RO step must operate at high recovery to reduce the extremely high capital and operating costs of the steps that follow the RO. The RO process also generates a re-claimed water stream for beneficial reuse within the plant.
