Quo Vadis LDS – State Of The Art Pipeline Leak Detection Systems

The field of pipeline leak detection systems (LDS) continuously evolves. This includes the methods used to perform leak detection and localization, the improvement of performance, new services and business models, as well as additional requirements on leak detection systems, for example, regarding cybersecurity and legislation. This paper is designed to give an overview of current trends and recent developments in the field of leak detection.

The paper gives a detailed overview of improvements on leak detection capabilities, for example, by integrating artificial intelligence during leak detection system implementation. Also, different models for monitoring are described, from onsite installation to remote monitoring with connected services to detect leaks and product theft, where operators benefit from a cost-effective approach that allows them to focus on core business activities while ensuring their pipeline infrastructure is continuously monitored and protected.
