Standard single-use ion exchange resins present significant challenges during system startup for point-of-use (POU) and point-of-entry (POE) drinking water treatment. Traditional chloride-form media rapidly absorb sulfate while releasing excess chloride, elevating the chloride-to-sulfate mass ratio (CSMR) and dropping effluent pH. This imbalance creates aggressive, corrosive conditions that risk leaching lead and copper from household plumbing unless systems undergo extensive pre-rinsing for hours or days.

Specially buffered anion exchange media resolve these chemistry shifts by delivering stable pH levels, consistent alkalinity, and favorable CSMR profiles right from initial commissioning. Because they operate efficiently under short contact times and frequent stop-start cycling without sloughing captured contaminants, buffered media are ideally suited for residential and light-commercial configurations. Integrating upstream particulate filtration and GAC polishing beds further protects against fouling, oxidants, and taste concerns.
