Purifics PHOTO-CAT System Supplies Drinking Water At Rural School

London, Ontario, Canada – Purifics ES Inc., ("Purifics") has installed a PHOTO-CAT® drinking water system at an Ontario elementary school.

The school is located in a rural area of the Province. The groundwater supply needed to be treated to Ontario drinking water standards. The challenge for treating the water was that the system had to remove all contaminants, operate at a wide range of flows, and provide economic and environmental advantage over the current bottled water solution.

The Purifics PHOTO-CAT drinking water system was chosen because it can treat a wide range of contaminants, can operate independent of the electrical grid power costs through the use of solar panels, is compact, requires no direct operator involvement, and can operate through a range of flows. The system will replace the need for bottled water at the school.

St. Patrick Catholic School, part of the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board, is a rural school about a 1 ½ hour drive southwest of Canada's capital of Ottawa. The school currently has 250 students from Kindergarten to Grade 8.

Scott Raycroft, Energy Systems Technologist with the School Board, commented, "What I like about the Purifics system is that it is easy to operate and maintain."

Ontario's Green Schools Pilot Initiative is a $20M Government program that invests in innovative green products and technologies in Ontario schools. The investment is designed to help businesses showcase their innovative technologies while supporting a greener economy.

PHOTO-CAT is a photocatalytic, ceramic membrane process that combines the best of chemical-free advanced oxidation processes (AOP+®) and high flux ceramic ultrafiltration. The advantages of Purifics' PHOTO-CAT system are that it is chemical free (no peroxide or ozone), no waste generated, fully automated (no operator required) and will treat contaminants of concern to levels below the detection limit. Another advantage is that there are no air emissions, eliminating the need for air permits.

The PHOTO-CAT system was shipped in the summer and was operational for the start of school in September.
