Produced Water Spill In Williams County

Henry Hill Oil Services, LLC notified state agencies on Monday, Aug. 28, of a produced water release from a pipeline they operate in Williams County, located approximately 26 miles northeast of Williston.

Initial estimates from Henry Hill indicate 10,000 barrels (420,000 gallons) of produced water released, some of which impacted a wetland area. Produced water, also known as brine or saltwater, is a by-product of oil production. The cause of the spill is under investigation.

Personnel from the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality have been on site and will continue to oversee remediation.

Federal and state laws require that operators report the spillage of any materials that may pollute water, air or soil. Visit spill.nd.gov for more information about North Dakota’s Unified Spill Reporting System notifications and the public access tool.
