Polyaluminium Ferric Chloride Has Good Effect In Treating Papermaking Wastewater

The pH value of polyaluminium chloride and polyaluminium chloride iron solution is low, and aluminium ions and iron ions exist in the form of hydrated aluminium and hydrated iron complex ions. When added to wastewater, if the pH value rises, these hydrated complex ions will undergo coordination hydrolysis reaction to generate various hydroxyaluminium ions and hydroxyferric ions, and eventually aluminium hydroxide and iron hydroxide sediments will be separated. Due to the sedimentation net capture mechanism, the flocculation effect is getting better and better. When the pH value continues to rise, the hydroxide sediment will dissolve again, making the flocculation effect worse; if the pH value is too low, the coordination hydrolysis reaction is difficult and the flocculation effect is poor; if the pH value is too high, the aluminium hydroxide sediment will dissolve in large quantities and the flocculation effect will also deteriorate.

The primary conditions affecting the coagulation and sedimentation of papermaking wastewater are the pH value, the type of coagulant and the amount of coagulant added. When using polyaluminium chloride ferric coagulant, when the pH value is 8 and the dosage is 6ml, i.e. 30g/L, the decolorization rate of papermaking wastewater can reach 90%, and the COD removal rate can reach 43%. When polyaluminium chloride coagulant is used to treat papermaking wastewater, the pH value is adjusted to 8 and the dosage is 6ml, i.e. 30mg/L, the decolorization rate of wastewater can reach 78%, and the COD removal rate can reach 37%.

When treating wastewater from paper mills, whether from an economic or treatment perspective, it is more appropriate to choose polyaluminium chloride ferric coagulant than polyaluminium chloride.
