Because standards are a moving target while treatment options are limited and can represent a massive expense, addressing PFAS can be especially challenging for small water systems. Smaller water utilities may be concerned that they have neither the capital nor the expertise/manpower to use effective PFAS removal technologies. But small utilities can remain hopeful because there are existing technologies that can remove PFAS and that are simple and cost effective to operate.
