Secondary metabolites of algae, including algal toxins and taste and odor compounds resulting from a harmful algal bloom (HAB), can find their way into source water and create the risk that they will ultimately reach the WTP and cause water-quality problems. The key to mitigating their effects is treating them through oxidation, or a combination of oxidization processes. Here is a checklist of potential considerations for cost-effective water treatment issues under a variety of source water conditions.
