Orange County Water Leader Cathy Green Receives Endorsement To Serve As President Of California's Largest Water Association
The Association of California Water Agencies’ (ACWA) Election Committee has unanimously endorsed longtime Orange County Water District (OCWD; the District) Director Cathy Green as the preferred candidate to serve as its President for its next two-year term. ACWA is the largest statewide coalition of public water agencies in the country.
“It is an absolute honor to serve ACWA and to be selected as the Committee’s preferred candidate for President in the upcoming ACWA election,” said OCWD Director Cathy Green. “My vision for ACWA is to fully embrace its motto of ‘Bringing Water Together.’ I believe that we can accomplish this by unifying ACWA members statewide and collaborating with stakeholders to find effective solutions to the challenges we face.”
Cathy Green currently serves as Vice President of ACWA, a position she was elected to in December 2021 for a two-year term. She has served as an active member of ACWA since 2012, including serving on ACWA’s Executive Committee since 2020, the ACWA Board since 2016, and the Region 10 Board from 2012-2021. She held the position of ACWA Region 10 Chair from 2018-2019 and served as Vice Chair from 2016-2017 and 2020-2021. Cathy Green has also served on several ACWA committees including the Water Quality Committee since 2012, the Energy Committee since 2019, and the State Legislative Committee from 2012-2015.
“Along with water agencies throughout the state, OCWD supports Cathy and has the highest level of confidence that ACWA and its member agencies will benefit greatly from her leadership,” said OCWD General Manager Mike Markus. “Cathy’s knowledge of complex water issues, character, and innovative problem-solving capabilities makes her the right candidate for ACWA President.”
The ACWA Election Committee will be listing Cathy Green on the ballot for ACWA President, which will be presented to the Association members for a vote beginning July 17. Voting will be done electronically through September 15.
