Official opening of the world's largest ultra-filtration membrane plant

NORIT Membrane Technology announced that the world's largest ultra-filtration plant at Clay Lane is producing water April this year, and was officially opened on the 28th of June 2001. The plant was build for Three Valleys Water one of the largest water only supplier in the UK. Three Valleys Water is owned by Vivendi Water UK PLC, which in turn is part of Vivendi Environment.

The £10 million ultra-filtration plant at Clay Lane, which is used as a final treatment barrier in the production of potable water, has a capacity of 160 million litres/day (42 MGD). The design and build contract was awarded to OTVB and NORIT Membrane Technology provided the XIGA™ membrane technology based on NORIT X-Flow membranes. Vivendi Water Partnership was responsible for the overall project management.

At Clay Lane 160 million litres of raw water is treated and clean potable water is provided to 750,000 customers in North West London and the surrounding counties.

A very important reason the for successful realisation was the positive contribution of all parties involved to the project team. The capacity of the plant in combination with the available space and the quality requirements created several challenges for the team but through partnership and hard work solutions were found and implemented in the overall design of the plant.

NORIT Membrane Technology was also selected as a framework supplier to provide membrane technology for other projects executed under the management of Vivendi Water Partnership. Since then NORIT has been awarded three other projects under the framework.
