Notification Of Discharge Of Untreated Wastewater
Franklin County Public Utilities experienced a discharge of untreated wastewater on May 6, 2024.
Franklin County Public Utilities experienced a discharge of untreated wastewater from a force-main line along Park Ave in Youngsville. The discharge was the result of a pipe and seal failure. The discharge started Monday, May 6 and concluded on Monday, May 6. The discharge of wastewater was estimated to be 9,000 gallons and approximately 3,500 gallons of the 9,000 gallons discharged reached the surface waters of Brandy Creek.
Franklin County Public Utilities staff was dispatched to the site and started cleanup after the discharge stopped.
North Carolina General Statute 143-215.1C requires the owner or operator of any wastewater collection or treatment works to issue a press release when an untreated wastewater discharge of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface waters. In accordance with that regulation, this press release has been prepared and issued to media in the affected county.
Residents do not need to take any action at this time.
The Division of Water Quality was notified of this event on May 7, 2024, and is reviewing the matter.
