Reflective UV Cuts Energy Use By 90%

Most people want more — more money, more time, more friends, more power.
But right now Stephen Dunham, president and CEO of NeoTech Aqua Solutions, is excited about having less. A lot less.
NeoTech has created a new ultraviolet (UV) disinfection technology that requires only eight lamps — roughly 1/10 of the number of lamps required in similar flow-sized conventional UV systems—and only about 2kw of power.
The technology, known as the MagnumUV, can disinfect over 4 million gallons of water per day, or around 3,000 gallons per minute. It is able to do this because of its high-reflectivity chamber and optimized flow dynamics, explained Dunham.
“In a conventional system, a UV photon may bounce once off the stainless steel chamber wall once, and then again, and possibility a third time, before it is absorbed into the chamber,” says Dunham. “In our case, we are reflecting that same photon not just a few times but thousands of times until it contacts a microorganism or other organic target in the chamber.”
