NAWC Applauds EPA 'Get the Lead Out' Initiative

The National Association of Water Companies (NAWC) joined the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as it unveiled the Get the Lead Out (GLO) initiative.

“The leadership team at the EPA Office of Water should be applauded for its Get the Lead Out Initiative and today’s policy forum,” said NAWC President & CEO Robert F. Powelson, who joined EPA leadership at the event in Washington, D.C. “Lead service line replacement is a national priority for NAWC member companies who have been working in collaboration with state public utility commissions to protect customers by working to address this issue.”

Under the GLO Initiative, EPA will partner with 200 underserved communities to help identify lead services lines, develop replacement plans and apply for funding to get the lead out. The program is designed to help achieve President Biden’s goal of 100% lead pipe removal and builds on EPA’s existing water technical assistance portfolio.

The GLO Initiative is funded entirely by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which provided $50B for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements with more than $15B of that dedicated to replacing lead service lines.
