Modern Clog-Free Wastewater Pumping Solution
Standard wastewater pumps have struggled with evolving wastewater compositions, especially since COVID, when non-woven sheets and fats, oils, and grease (FOG) increased significantly. These materials form sticky masses that clog pumps, leading to costly maintenance. Originally, non-clog pump impellers with vertical vanes were introduced in 1913, but they are now ineffective; no matter how blunt those leading edges of the vertical impeller vanes are, FOG-laden non-woven materials and similar large masses simply drape over them, reducing flow and ultimately clogging the impellers.
As such, wastewater utilities need a modern solids-handling pumping solution. They need pumps that can automatically dislodge clogs, self-clean, and temporarily adjust inlet openings to accommodate larger or more difficult debris. It is with this in mind that Flygt, a Xylem brand, introduced the Adaptive N-impeller, which is designed to reduce clogging commonly experienced in today’s wastewater environment, and as a result, minimizes expensive call-outs and overall operating costs.
